Peep Hole....? I have a door with no peep hole... How can i install one? Do I have to call a handyman or is it possible to do it myself? |
Actually, I would recommend a small hole saw or forstner bit instead of a regular spiral drill bit, especially if it is not a wooden door. If it's a metal door, you will need carbite bits. Measure it CAREFULLY to make sure you have it right -- you don't get a second try! Put a mark on the center of the spot you want it, then use a countersink and a hammer to mark the spot. Rest the bit in the indentation and drill straight down, with a steady even pressure. The peep hole you buy should have directions on how to install it in the hole.
If you are fairly comfortable with an electric screwdriver in your hand, this job should be a piece of cake for you. If you aren't, it would be a good first DIY job, especially if the door IS wood. Even if it's steel, you still might wanna try it if you feel fairly ambitious. If you REALLY are not comfortable, you should get somebody to do it. Don't forget the door is the first thing people see when they come to see you! |
A peep hole on a door allows you to see a wide view of the outside through a relatively tiny ? A peep hole on a door allows you to see a wide view of the outside through a relatively tiny hole. What kind of lens is this and why? Draw a ray diagram verifying your answer.
When you look down into a swimming pool or lake, are you likely to overestimate or underestimate its depth? Explain your answer using light rays coming from underneath the water.

Peep hole sees wide angle because of a convex lens.
Refraction distorts the image of an object underwater changing the aspect of the angle and enlarging the appearance of thing underwater.
Sounds like a homework assignment, draw your own diagram. |
How can i stop my peep hole on my door fogging up in the winter? I get water in my peep hole in the winter time. how can i stop this? |
| Is the peephole itself damaged? Somehow the water is getting inside the unit and that suggests to me that there is a crack in the peephole unit and possibly even water getting inside your door. Replacing the peephole would be your easiest/cheapest option but you might also look at the door and perhaps your eavestrough. |
When installing a peep hole on a door, how high should it be? There seems to be a standard for hotel peep holes, what is it? How high should it be to accomodate everyone's needs? |
I personally put mine as high as the smallest person living in my house...(My wife is only 4'11" so, that was the height).
Since the lady in your life is going to be the one most concerned with using it, I would make it "her" eye level...
Now, I had guyren, and we had a small stool that they put in front of the door, if someone knocked and they wanted to see who it was.
But, they have since grown up, and dont need the stool and its just right for each of them too.
I wish you well..

Is their a standard UFAS Peep Hole height for assisted living facilities? The best I've been able to research is providing peep holes lowered to wheelchair sitting height. Is their a standardized height range? |
| 48 inches |
How do they measure Peep Hole view angle? I was looking for a peep hole, and the store guy pointed me to "wide angle vieweres." They say that there are three kinds, one with a 160 degree fied of view, one with a 180 degree field of view, and one with a 200 degree field of view, but all of the packages showed a guy looking through a peephole, with about a 90 degree angle field of view labeled differently according to the package.
200 degrees? Doesn't that mean you could see backwards a little bit? Do I just not understand how these are being measured? |
| actually it shows the sides of the door, this peep hole was designed for those little ol' ladies that always seem to have bushes on the sides of the door or home, you don't see behind you obviously, but you do see a little more than 180 which is half a circle. if your door was glass than you would definately see yourself but then again why would you need a peep hole with a glass door....lol |
When you are looking out the peep hole can people see your eye? i have a peep hole in my door so i could see who is at the door, but i dont know if people can see your eye when you are looking through the peep hole , so can people see your eye when you are looking through it? |
| No, people cant see through the peep hole from outside |
I have a door that is 3/4" thick. Is there a door viewer or "peep hole" that will fit that door? I need a door viewer or "peep hole" that can fit a door that is only 3/4" thick. Is there on that size? or what is the smalles size that I can find? |
the only place you'll find a 3/4" inch door, as a standard size, is on a kitchen cabinet.
you may consider using a small decorative medallion to build up the thickness for a standard peep hole. |
Is it illegal to cover a peep hole? When people knock on my neighbour's door, I have caught them blocking the peep hole with their thumb or hand.
Is this illegal, and can I notify the police?
Thanks |
| i don't think so for the most part people only cover peep holes if they know that person I do it all the time to my friends but I wouldn't do it to a stranger. |
What are the charges for a man sneaking into a room next to the women's shower and making a peep hole? I am not trolling but i do know of a guy that used to do something like this. |
Where I live, this would be Disorderly Conduct, punishable by a $500 fine. Repeated offenses bump this up to 6 months in jail.
I suppose there could be charges for Criminal Mischief (drilling the hole and damaging the wall). If the cost of reparing the wall was under $50, a $500 fine. If it was between $50 and $500, up to 6 months in jail. Over $500, a year in jail. |
