I have been on this and taken that and I just don't stick to anything because I am just too tired and angry at myself. I wish there was a fat hospital just like a mental hospital, unfortunately anything I could go to, insurance doesn't cover and spending any extra money on anything is not an option for my family right now.
Please, help me. | You're right, insurance companies won't cover hospital or clinic stays for obesity the way they do for drug & alcohol rehab programs. It doesn't make sense, but until overeating is recognized as a disease, that's the way it is.
However, summer camps often do have "scholarship" programs for guys whose parents can't afford to send them. Weight loss camps are a different breed of summer camp, but search the Internet and some should offer scholarships.
It helps just to not do it alone. If you can find a weight loss group in your area, especially one for teens, that would help. Online, the very best place to connect with others is www.3fatchicks.com , which has message boards along with all their other content.
There's also a Biggest Loser program online that you could join. It costs a small amount of money, but you'd be dieting with a group. www.biggestloserclub.com/3booklan…
You might also look into a Curves membership. It's more affordable than most gyms and is for females only. It works completely differently than other gyms, much easier for people with no fitness at all to start. You can try them for a week or two for free.
Just don't blame yourself. It really isn't a failing on your part. Your appetite is the problem; if you can get that under control, it becomes easy to eat right. There are prescription drugs to suppress appetite, but most health insurance plans won't pay for them, alas. Here are some things that can help:
1. Eat your vegetables! (and fruits) Even if you're not dieting, get in those 5-9 government-recommended servings of vegs/fruits, because all that fiber fills you up. Not to mention that they're good for you. Eggplant is a very heavy veg, so eggplant dishes can be very filling. Try those boxes of broccoli and cheese sauce, which aren't many calories and are very good. Have one for lunch, and it'll help with cravings for junk food.
2. Expand the fiber by getting plenty of water. I personally think 8 cups a day is far too much. If you're in the bathroom peeing it out all day, that's too much, but do get enough.
3. Green tea is supposed to be an appetite suppressant, and it's all the rage right now.
4. One folk remedy that does work, if you're willing to do it is apple cider vinegar. Put 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into enough warm water to make one cup, and drink it down. Do it 3-4 times a day. Give it a few days to take effect, and then you will notice your appetite is down, and with it, those cravings for junk foods.
5. Even if you can't push yourself to stick to a diet, get out and walk for half an hour a day. Start with a shorter time and work up to 30 minutes if you need to. Walking will speed up your metabolism and firm you up, not to mention burn calories. It can even reduce appetite. Once you can manage 30 minutes, try running some of it. Use your high school track to measure distance. Try running one lap (1/4 mile), walking when you need to. Once you can jog the whole lap (pace yourself, no full out runs), work on a second lap and so on until you make it up to a mile or two. You can do this whether or not you're dieting. Often people who start working out find they naturally turn to eating less and eating right. | Obese teen with only one uniform shirt. I need some guidance on how to shed 10-20 lbs. Please answer. :)? I have to wash my shirt every day. I would like to be less obese before high school. But i could fit into my clothes if I weighed 10-20 pounds less. I have 5 shirts in my closet but only 1 is my size. I use to be able to fit the others. They are Adult Medium. Please help the best you can. Thank you. | | This is probably the best tip I can give you : When it comes to eating, it's not this OR that which makes you gain weight, it's this AND that. For example, if you order a Big Mac, don't get the side of fries. Also, there's little things that could help. For example, don't eat potato chips, switch to popcorn or pretzels instead. Walk on a treadmill for half an hour a day, if you place it next to a TV or bring a Game Boy down there, a half an hour flies by easily! And, if you already own a treadmill, exercise bike, or otherwise, place it next to the TV. Instead of sitting down when you watch your shows, get on the machine. Hope this helps, good luck! | How do i stick to my diet? im an obese teen? i am a 18 year old, 5'7, 250 pound male. i wanna lose weight. i am in a size 40 pants and an extra large shirt. i don't like being big. i see all my friends who are slim getting lots of girls and i don't. when i go on a diet i start off good but then i see my friends eating bad and then i wanna join in. please help | Hey,
It's hard work. Really is. And being 250lbs at 5'7 means you do have problems with food. So you're going to have to face the problems and tackle them head on, that means craving and feeling tempted, but saying no and staying on track. And if you fall off the wagon, you get back on, and never give up.
Your diet and weight loss goals need to be made the #1 priority in your life for a period of time. You need to see it for the challenge that it is, but a worthy challenge - because probably right now in your life, losing that weight is the best thing you can do for yourself. You'll feel healthy, in control, successful, girls will be attracted to you etc.
You have two broad options - the slow and steady route, aka the healthy route. Or the fast route, which takes more discipline, but it's often easier to be more disciplined because results come quickly. Both are healthy, and both will work for you if you have your head straight and are clear about what you want. But you may find one approach more suited to your lifestyle.
For slow and steady - check out Tom Venuto's books Burn The Fat Feed the Muscle. You could drop all that weight in 6-8 months using his methods.
For faster paced, check out Lyle McDonald's Rapid Fat Loss Handbook.
In terms of getting girls, I noticed that my attractiveness increased as I lost weight. I didn't have to be at goal weight. So when I was 250lbs, I didn't' notice any attention off women. As I reduced to 224, I noticed girls seemed more interested, down to 200 lbs, and things improve again. So you could quite quickly make progress in that respect. It's down to you bro, choose a path, take the pain and walk it with conviction and you will come out at the other end lean, happy and laid. | Who takes the blames for having an obese teen. The parents or the teen them self's? Help please? Who is it to blame. And what can we do to reduce the percent of over weight teens. | Both really. The guy learns their eating habits from parents and parents buy the food in the house. But, a guy can still make their own healthy habits if they research how to live healthy (because they parents are not going to teach them). Most people don't really know how to live healthily because also, when you research there are a lot of lies out there.

To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
Your body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) and exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of the Atkins program is converting your body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). You need to keep your fat levels at >65% of your calories, if you don't your body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert your body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis) you will probably feel sluggish the first week but most people feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. for hot cereal or 2 min. for more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat. Suggested for daily fiber needs.
The first 2 weeks you can have several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce and celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers and more variety of vegetables thereafter add 5 grams per day additional (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight.
Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.
Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Normalizing blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, triglyercerides and hormone levels are all bonus features of doing a low carb way of eating. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calories, Bad calories" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.
Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck! |
